Distant Thunder

I just listened to every song in order and then Healing Hands again. I’m floored, this is great American music, period. I love it. Now and then I felt like I should be holding the brown The Band album cover in my lap, which I mean as a compliment – that you and Joe evoked the feelings I get from them. Wow!

About the project

The goal has been to write and produce songs that are in the classic style of Americana/Roots music. Our inspirations come from the artists that informed our musical tastes like Bob Dylan, The Band and Neil Young and their contemporary equivalents, artists such as Chris Stapleton and John Prine.

Distant Thunder began in NYC in 1992. The nine songs were completed in 2020.

All nine songs were written by Joe and Marc with the exception of occaissional input on three of the songs from our friends, songwriters Larry Gottlieb and Dan Sammartano. All instruments were played and recorded by Marc and all of the vocals are by Joe with the exception of I’d Rather Be Dancing With You, which was done with a live band featuring the the legendary Eric Weissberg writer and player of Dueling Banjos. Marc and Joe would like to thank music producer Jeanne Neary Look, for her invaluable input on all aspects of this project.

Marc Blatte and Joe Cerisano’s band Distant Thunder is an Americana, High five-deep dive! Their songs are a panorama of life lessons both serious and off the cuff whose melodies stick with lyrics you can read your history in.

Keep up the great work, really strong. Put the Gun Down is epic.-Steve Addabo, producer Sean Colvin, Suzanne Vega

I’m blown away with what these two have cooked up.-Dave Fields (Big City Rhythm & Blues magazine) New York Hall of Fame guitarist songwriter

Great songs – melodic, hooky, and with a lot of heart. Joe’s vocals are soulful and evocative, as always. Robbie Kondor composer/arranger/instrumentalist for Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Carol King

Congratulations on what is clearly a milestone.Just listened to the whole thing through.  It’s very powerful stuff.  The singer is great.  The tunes are great. The sound is a unique combination of traditional elements.  There are echoes of The Band and John Mellencamp, but those never used pedal steel the way it’s used on this record. -Richard Hunter harp player and author of the world’s best-selling method for jazz and rock harmonica players, Jazz Harp (Oak Publications, NYC)

A huge virtual round of applause for Distant Thunder using their voice at a perfect moment in time here on “Healing Hand” – I’ve got nothing else but love and appreciation for a song executed as well as this is.  From concept to performance – they’ve nailed it here…and there’s not a thing about it I’d change. -Sleeping Bag Blogger
